Could Job Hopping Benefit Your Career
Could Job Hopping Benefit Your Career In the past, job hopping has been regarded as a negative thing, signifying that the individual has trouble holding down a job, or lacks commitment and focus at work. However, things are changing and what once could have been a deal breaker for a candidate, could in fact work in their favour in the current climate. Changing jobs frequently is particularly common among millennials, who are much more likely to progress in their career by using a number of different companies as the stepping stones to path their way to success, than their older counterparts who tended to climb the career ladder within a single organisation. Tenure was once considered one of the most valuable traits in a potential employee when making hiring decisions, as it indicates that they were clearly valued within their previous company and are much more likely to stick around if given the job than a job hopper. These days, however, having a number of jobs on your resume doesnt necessarily mean that youre a loose cannon and rather that you have a variety of experience and skills from different roles and environments. So what do people really think about job hopping in this day and age and how could it affect your career? According to a survey conducted by Accountemps, of the US workers surveyed, 58% of them still do not believe that job hopping can benefit your career. This being said, responses were highly divided by age and whereas 78% of over 55s do not think it is beneficial, 57% of 18-34 year olds regard it as a positive thing. Here are a few of the benefits of job hopping: 1) Earn more When staying in the same job over time, pay-rises may be few and far between and theyre probably not quite as generous as youd hope. By beginning a new role at a new company, however, it is much more likely to result in a salary increase and there is more room for negotiation prior to starting at the company too. 2) Gain new skills By working in a number of different roles and companies, it gives you the opportunity to learn new skills and experience different processes and techniques. With every new role, comes new experiences, different colleagues and varied responsibilities, all of which could benefit you in the future of your career. 3) Experience different company cultures By working at a number of different companies throughout their career, job hoppers will experience a variety of company sizes, industries and people. This can be an attractive quality in a potential employee as it is likely that they will be able to bring a lot of ideas to the table, insights into the way that other businesses run and a broad network of contacts. 4) Move up the career ladder faster Depending on the size of the organisation you are working in, receiving a promotion can often take some time! Its likely that there wont be a more senior position in the company, without somebody leaving their job and theres no saying when that could be. Additionally, it can take some proving yourself, to convince your boss that you deserve the opportunity. Starting a role in a new company can remove all of these factors, as you can go where the vacancies are, rather than waiting around for the opportunity to arise. 5) Multiple employers on resume Although some employers may be hesitant to hire people whos resume demonstrates a number of short stints at different companies, some like to hire people with a diverse background. Multiple employers means exposure to multiple cultures, management styles and responsibilities, creating a well rounded employee. [Image Credit: Shutterstock]

Writing an Objective State For Resume
Writing an Objective State For ResumeWriting an objective state for resume should be taken care of with accuracy. Resume requires making an important distinction between a formal and objective statement, and the actual decision of the person will have a lot to do with it. The objective states the purpose of being hired, what would the position be for and how this position is going to be presented to the reader.Since both the writing of resume and the actual interview are distinct, the intent of the person writing resume should be to present all the qualities and abilities needed by the company that is hiring. Even if it was not the case, the overall thinking would still remain the same, since you have to be seen as having the ability to be capable to the position you are applying for.The reason you would be needed to state all the qualifications and experience that you possess for the different job titles that you are applying for is to provide credibility to the entire application. In every objective you would be including the capability that you possess to handle any type of situation that may come up during the interview process. You would also need to state what you have to offer the company in relation to the qualifications stated, and the abilities that you posses. This is because any organization that hires should know that you are knowledgeable about the particular job title they are searching for.In addition to being aware of what you would be offering as being knowledge in a specific job title, you would also be making the impression that you are indeed knowledgeable about the title that you are applying for. When someone decides to take your place and have a conversation with you, you would be able to provide them with a message that you are willing to learn and adapt to any company's expectations that they may have.To make this possible, you must state in your resume exactly what it is that you have to offer to the company as a resource on their car eer path. In this way, you will be able to be honest in your description of yourself and the skills and abilities that you possess to fulfill any of the positions that you would be applying for.Writing an objective state for resume would require that you create a logical and organized approach to describe all the qualities and abilities that you posses that are required in a position. You will have to consider the steps that you must take to make this happen, and the requirements that the company will place on hiring you for.To have the resume prepared for the employer, you would have to develop a technique that will guide you through the rest of the process. Make sure that when you write the objectives you clearly make the point that you are qualified to fill any of the positions that are being sought for.To make it easier for the employers to understand what you mean when you refer to different types of responsibilities, consider choosing a different format for each type of respon sibility. For example, when you are asked to offer your opinion on a job title, you may use an objective state for resume to simply state that you have the skills and abilities required to carry out the duties of the particular job title that you are discussing.

Dont be a dreamer, be a planner
Dont be a dreamer, be a planner Let go of your dreams. They are stupid. Im going to show you why. But first, let me say that Im a big fan of deciding what you want for your life. Its just that Im a practical person. If you say you want stuff you cant have [insert here, for example, a list of 20 things you have to have in a new job] youll never get it. So the first step to getting what you want is dumping all your dreams. Heres why: 1. Dreams are distractions from what you are good at. I have dreams. Thats why I know they are stupid. I have the dream that I look like a model with perfectly pulled together outfits and three-inch heels to match. But I keep shopping at sneaker stores. So my dream just distracts from my efforts at being my best self. Another dream is that I can write like Stephen Rodrick in his piece titled, Here is What Happens When You Cast Lindsay Lohan in Your Movie. Oh my gosh, its so fun to read and he has so much insight about Hollywood. But heres the truth: I could never write like this. He had to hang out with Hollywood types for a long time to have this insight, and then he wrote a piece that is like, ten times longer than my longest blog post. So it would be impossible for me to write like this. I can like it without dreaming that I can do it. 2. Dream are not goals. They are information about where you can grow. Another thing I do is see a good video and think: I need to do one like this. And I start dreaming about how I could do it. Heres the best travel video Ive ever seen. Its great because I hate travel, but also because its so simple. I am scared to be simple. I am scared I wont keep you interested. So what I want is this guys bravery to trust in himself that its worth doing something simple. 3. Dreams are things that nag you. Thats why I hate them. If you want to be a good blogger, you have to read Barstool Sports. I love it so much. Its a good bet that every day on this site is NSFW, but I love the site for how smart it is. Its the new millennium version of reading Playboy for the articles. Heres a post from yesterday (that is, actually, safe to read at your office) and its such a good post that I had to pause and take a breath after it. I had to think a lot about why its good and how I can use it to make myself better at writing posts. Sometimes my dream is to write like the guys at Barstool Sports. But I remind myself that I take life too seriously to write like them. Id feel stupid after a while. So I like reading the site but I wouldnt like being more like the site. When I acknowledge that about myself, I feel better reading the post. 4. Goals are dreams that have a plan. Goals get done. Dreams dont get done. My son is obsessed with the apocalypse. Im not really even sure what the apocalypse is. I thought it was peak oil, but increasingly I think that its zombies. At any rate, he has joined the ranks of those making extensive preparations. At first I ignored his rants about off-the-grid heating and stockpiling food. But then I thought: learning moment. And I showed him how to use Microsoft Project to turn his dream of survival into a plan. Now each family member has assignments, and, surprisingly enough, we are doing them. The Farmer just bought a generator, I found Enerhealths bucket of food for forty days of survival (its organic!), and my son is investigating Radiant Heating for our floors. 5. Most people who talk about living their dreams are delusional. If you are doing what you love to do you are living your plan, not your dream. So, okay, Im a lucky duck that I get to write about whatever I want and get paid for it. But do you know what I did to get here? Write every single day of my life since I was pre-literate. I didnt spend every day saying my dream is to write I spent every day writing. And this is true of people who are living their dreams. But the world doesnt like hearing about hard workthe world likes hearing you can do anything (which is stupid because of course you cannot do anything.) Live your dreams lives in the same realm as the BS of you can do anything. 6. Kill your dreams with productivity tools. Really. Do you know how I get the life I want? By being a total nut about getting things done. First, I spent years learning how to create a to do list that will get me where I want to be in life. Now, when I find myself ignoring my to do list on a regular basis I tell myself I have to find different tools for managing my plans. Because I dont have dreams, I have plans. I love the pitch I read from Easilydo: The average person makes 35,000 decisions a day and the difficulty of juggling multiple productivity apps makes that harder. This pitch reminds me of the studies about decision fatigue that we get from making decisions all day. So I am trying Easilydo to decrease my decision fatigue, which will help me focus on plans. (You can try it out if you want: download Easilydo here.) When you think about your dreams, think instead about productivity tools. I know its not nearly as romantic, but if you want to be excited about your life, its going to be the plans you make an actually implement, not the dreams you spew to your friends.

Top 7 Qualities of a Successful Team
Top 7 Qualities of a Successful Team A strong team are the foundation of high-performing business and a good team ethic can be held largely accountable for the success and smooth running of the organisation. If employees do not gel and work well together, problems can arise, such as poor organisation, missed deadlines and conflict within the workplace. So what can teams do to ensure that they are collectively productive and drive the company forward? Here are a few qualities that a successful team possess. 1) They communicate well with each other They communicate openly with each other, sharing their thoughts, opinions and ideas with members of their team; as well as taking into consideration what others have to say. Communication is essential for keeping track of progress and working together efficiently on tasks. Poor communication can lead to crossed wires, that can mean work is left incomplete/incorrect or conflicts can arise. 2) They focus on goals and results They agree on and set team goals based on outcomes and results, rather than just on the amount of work being done. A clear plan can then be set about how they are going to achieve these objectives, as a group, as well as each individuals contribution. This provides them with clear direction and gives them something to aim for collectively. 3) Everyone contributes their fair share Each member of the team contributes their fair share of the workload and fully understand what their responsibilities are and where they fit in with the running of the business. They feel a sense of belonging to the team, are committed to their work and really care about the success of the company. 4) They offer each other support Team members are always happy to assist others when they need a helping hand with work. Teams are often more productive when they are also offered support from the organisation and access to the required resources. 5) Team members are diverse Everyone is unique and will be able to offer their own experiences and knowledge that others may not possess. Diversity is needed so that all of the required skills are covered by somebody in the team and each individual can be assigned a particular role on the basis of their strengths and skills. A variety of personalities, age groups, cultures, etc. can also bring creativity and a broad range of ideas to the table. 6) Good leadership A strong team usually have a leader that they trust and respect. This individual essentially works as the glue holding the team together and should be responsible for setting the pace, offers encouragement and motivation and keeps all members of the team updated. 7) Theyre organised Organisation is essential for the smooth running of a business. Without it the workplace can become chaotic and goals are unlikely to be achieved. Though each individual should be responsible for organising their own workload, management should ensure that everything is running to plan and each member of the team is getting their work completed efficiently. Holding regular meetings can help to make sure that everyone is on the same page and deadlines are being met. 8) They have fun It shouldnt be all work and no play! This can lead to burnout and lack of productivity, so its important to inject a bit of enjoyment into working life. Teams who work particularly well together enjoy each others company and get together outside of the office from time to time to socialise and have some fun! Building a positive relationship with your colleagues can make for a much more relaxed environment and reduce conflict.
